It exists because deploys are stressful, and teams that find a way to laugh together before the release button is clicked ship with less anxiety than those who don't.
Light a virtual candle at one of nine themed altars — Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, Norse, Aztec, Voodoo, Silicon, Japanese, or Roman — each with its own blessing and atmosphere. The candle burns for exactly one hour. Share the link in Slack and your whole team sees the same candle counting down.
Consult the Oracle for a probabilistic omen based on your deploy description. Cast the Elder Futhark runes for ancient wisdom that maps surprisingly well onto modern deployment concerns. Roll the omen dice for a final numerical reading. All rituals are for entertainment only.
Every engineering team has its pre-deploy rituals — the person who always refreshes the staging environment three times, the one who announces the deploy to an empty Slack channel, the post-merge-freeze cheese. We wanted to give those rituals a home that felt intentional, a little absurd, and genuinely calming. The result is a tool that's secular by design — it borrows from religious iconography in a lighthearted, respectful way without promoting any faith.
Candle state is encoded in the share URL — no server stores your candle data. The live candle counter showing how many candles are currently burning uses a lightweight WebSocket server. The Oracle, rune, and dice systems use a cryptographically seeded pseudorandom number generator. Nothing about your deploy content is transmitted anywhere.
